Santa Cruz Archaeological Society and Cabrillo College Dig-It Club Speaker Meeting

Thursday, Mar 21, 2013 7:30p to 9:00p

“Digging Up the Past.” Central to Shirley Manis’ talk is her book, In a Scoop of Dirt–How Digging a Pond Changed North America’s Prehistory. When Emanuel Manis dug a pond for migrating birds in Sequim, Washington, he made a discovery that rocked the world of archaeology: the skeletal remains of an American Mastodon and associated tools. Our speaker, Emanuel’s daughter, a teacher, preserved bones and guided visitor tours on her summer vacations, and her fifth graders raised money for the site.
