New Play Festival

Annapolis’s Compass Rose Theater will debut a New Play Festival May 17, 18 and 19, 2013. The event presents a diverse mix of staged readings and features Lee Blessing, an award-winning playwright, as the keynote speaker on Saturday evening, May 18.

Over three days, offerings include staged readings of a play for young audiences; a play written by a student; a Page to Stage presentation by local life story authors; and selections of Lee Blessing’s play, Eleemosynary, which will also receive a full… Show more production April 5 – May 12. Mr. Blessing is a distinguished playwright who has garnered numerous awards including Obie, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk awards.

“In keeping with the company's educational mission, the festival’s goal is to enrich and entertain with contemporary works written by both local and national playwrights,” says Lucinda Merry-Browne, the theater’s founding artistic director. “It’s an affordable, fun event for the whole family and an opportunity for new artists to show their work.”

Page to Stage: Life Stories by local authors, edited by Lynn Schwartz:
Reception and discussion of the importance and techniques of life story writing.
