Umgass Presents: The Pirates of Penzance

Director David Andrews joins Musical Director Laura Swierzbin to bring us a unique retelling of Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved show about a rollicking band of pirates and the maidens who love them. This classic interpretation, with the added excitement of a Victorian miniatures-esque setting, is sure to please G&S fanatics and newcomers alike!
The show opens with Frederic, a young apprentice to the pirates, celebrating his 21st birthday, and with it the end of his indentures. Having never seen a… Show more woman (other than the pirates' caretaker, Ruth), he sets out to seek his fortune. He quickly happens upon a bevy of beautiful maidens, all wards of General Stanley, and is immediately entranced by Mabel, who returns his affections. The trouble begins when the pirates come ashore and encounter the maidens, creating a feud between the Major General and the Pirate King. A group of bumbling cops gets involved and chaos ensues. Who will win in the end? Will Mabel and Frederic's love prevail? Or will new information about Frederic's past complicate things even more?
