A legend and a creator of roots rock Levon Helm grew up in Arkansas and witnessed the birth of rock and roll as a teen. He went to Canada in the band of singer Ronnie Hawkins, eventually breaking off and forming his own group, Levon and the Hawks. About 1965, Bob Dylan decided to change his sound. He was ready to "go electric" and wanted Levon and The Hawks to help him make it happen. Dyl
