Grammy award winning, multi-platinum selling rapper Lil Wayne is set to perform August 14 at The Theatre at Honda Center. Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Jeremiah and Drake will be the special guests. This show is in support of Lil Wayne's upcoming album Rebirth set for release on August 18, 2009.
In February Lil Wayne won four Grammy awards including Best Rap Album for Tha Carter III, Best Rap Solo Performance for "A Milli" and Best Rap Song for "Lollipop." Lil Wayne is well on his way to a repeat performance as "Prom Queen," the first single from his highly anticipated eighth album Rebirth, hit Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. With Rebirth coming this summer, Lil Wayne continues to build momentum of an exceptional career.
In 1999 Lil Wayne released his double platinum selling solo debut Tha Block Is Hot yielding the #1 single "Tha Block Is Hot." In 2000 Wayne released Lights Out, which reached gold, and in 2002 Lil Wayne dropped his third solo release 500 Degrees which also went gold. Two years later Wayne released Tha Carter, the first album in the trilogy that would elevate Wayne to superstar status. Tha Carter (2004) sold over one million copies and reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart. His 2005 release, Tha Carter II, sold over 1.8 million records and hit #2 on Billboard's Top 200 and #1 on Top R&R/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
In 2008 Lil Wayne became the first artist since 2005 to sell one million albums in the first week of release when Tha Carter III sold over 1 million units in its debut week. Tha Carter III is the best-selling album release of 2008, having sold well over 2.7 million copies domestically since its release last June. The album held the #1 position on the Billboard's Top 200 for three weeks, won a Grammy for Best Rap Album and its single "Lollipop" topped Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for five weeks straight, also winning a Grammy for Best Rap Song. Last August, Lil Wayne set a record for charting 13 tracks as a lead or featured artist on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart simultaneously, including the #1s "Lollipop" and "A Milli."
Young Jeezy's 2005 major label debut Let`s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 spawned the Top Ten single "Soul Survivor" which featured Akon. The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 followed in 2006 and The Recession in 2008, both yielding chart-topping singles.
Also joining the bill are Soulja Boy, whose 2007 single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts, was #1 for seven non-consecutive weeks and nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song, and Drake who gained critical acclaim for his mixtapes and is currently working on his debut album, Thank Me Later.
