Looking back at the role of the Amphibious Navy during World War II. Known by the nickname “The Gator Navy,” amphibious assault ships are used to transport troops and equipment. @1p.m. Special guest speaker LCDR, Lt. Commander Bob Shaner will share both his memories and the history of the Amphibious Navy. Shaner served aboard the USS LST 475 for 16 months in the South Pacific.During the war he was part of the January 1945 invasion of Lingayen Gulf, Island of Luzon; D-Day H-Hour plus 2, and more.
